Styles Weekend Recommendations

This looks to be a lively weekend of events around Oakland and the Bay Area. I would like to highlight a couple of Oakland Soul Divas that are performing this weekend, as well as a fellow DJ’s birthday celebration.

Friday, August 27th

Jennifer Johns and Kev Choice will be presenting their new mixtape, “Chronicles of The Aquarian Mind” at The New Parrish, 579 18th St. Oakland. Vacillating between Afro‐Soul, Drum and Bass, Funk, Reggae, and every kind of rhythm in between, Johns crafts stirring tunes that are both heart‐rending and head‐bobbing. She has been in the lab with producer/keyboardist and artist, Kev Choice, and they have tapped into the soul of Oakland, the Caribbean and Africa all at once, to create a beautiful new sound experience.

Resident DJ NeoGeo of the Nodphonics is celebrating his birthday at Hooked! at Radio Bar, 435 13th St. Oakland. The Nodphonics are DJs Type One, Eric Rukis, Mark Maiden, DJ BlaQwest and DJ NeoGeo. No cover charge, no dress code, no holds barred on good music, good drinks and good people. Radio is one of my favorite spots to hang out, so I suggest that you check it out.
