DJ Styles

DJ Styles was born December 4th, 1972 in Oakland, CA. During his formative years, his many interests included reading, learning new things, electronics, and of course music. Styles was inspired by some of the greatest DJ's on the national and local scene early on in life. His influences included Jam Master Jay of RUN-DMC, Grandmaster Dee of Whodini, Grandmaster Flash, Cameron Paul, Michael Erickson and many others.

Although he could not afford a pair of Technics 1200's as a kid in the 1980's, Styles went to work accumulating all the hottest wax of the time, which accounts for his extensive vinyl collection. With a very open ear for music, the 80's provided the perfect kaleidoscope for Styles to develop his So Many Styles approach to music. Any given day, Styles could have been heard playing LL Cool J, Public Enemy, Culture Club, Too Short, Madonna, Metallica, RUN-DMC, Wham, Billy Ocean, David Bowie or anything in between. He has always appreciated anything with a good beat that made him move, regardless of the genre.

As the 1990's dawned, DJ Styles went on to attend UC Berkeley, when he first got his feet wet in the DJ game. A group of friends started a Mobile DJ company, ACE Productions, and Styles started out working with this group. He soon stepped out on his own as he began developing and nurturing his own style. He was soon doing a number of parties for many college organizations and fraternal groups. This led to many gigs at other college campus including San Francisco State, Stanford, Sacramento State, San Jose State and many other campuses and high schools throughout the greater Bay Area.

Most of this exposure led to gigs in many of the top clubs around the Bay Area. These included the infamous Informal Nation in the back of Club Townsend, Up & Down Club, 330 Ritch, Club Deco's Legendary Tuesday Night with Q-Bert, Shortkut, Derrick D. et al, Cat Club, Bamboo Hut, Cafe Du Nord, Beer Cellar, DNA Lounge, Elbo Room, Sound Factory, Il Pirata, Mission Rock, Nickie's, Larry Blake's in Berkeley, Oaktree in Oakland, as well as many more. Additionally, Styles began producing and selling his So Many Styles mixtapes and CD's, which he has consistently made since the mid-1990's.
