suitDJ Styles grew up in the diverse city of Oakland listening to the eclectic sounds of Hip Hop, Electronic, Pop, Rock, Funk, Soul, Reggae and Latin as a youth. Inspired by Jam Master Jay, Grandmaster Dee and Cut Creator while attending the King of Rock Tour in Middle School, Styles knew what his calling was. Local DJs like Cameron Paul, Michael Erickson, Davey D, Kevvy Kev, and Billy Jam further influenced him.

Many DJs pidgeon-hole themselves but Styles believes versatility and record strength can win any crowd over. He is able to swiftly blend between the latest Top 40 to Reggae then back to Classic Soul, Hip Hop or Electronica without anyone even noticing that the genre changed.

He started spinning in 1990 while a student at Cal Berkeley and selling cassette mixtapes on Telegraph alongside Mystik Journeymen, Hobo Junction, Bored Stiff, Cytoplasm and other classic Hip Hop groups of that era. He was soon spinning parties for many fraternities, sororities, and other colleges including Stanford, SF State, Sonoma St, Sacramento State, and UC Davis as well as performing at scores of weddings.

Styles soon moved into the Bay Area club scene playing many legendary venues like The Fillmore, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Eli’s Mile High Club, The Caspar Inn, The Elbo Room, Stork Club, Informal Nation, Deco, Club 6, The Omni, Kimball’s, Geoffrey’s, Luka’s, Polyester’s, Larry Blake’s, Radio, The Ivy Room and Rock Wall Winery. He has performed with many local and national artists and DJs including Musiq Soulchild, Method Man, Brand Nubian, Doug E, Fresh, Biz Markie, Alkaholiks, Hieroglyphics, Goapele, Mystik Journeymen, Murs, Cali Agents, Q-Bert, Shortkut, Mix Master Mike, Oakland Faders, Kid Capri, Mind Motion, Rick Lee, DJ Hum and many more. He has also rocked parties in Las Vegas, LA and Brazil. He has been on various radio stations including KALX, KPOO, Pirate Radio and Styles has done video work in the movies The Principal and Panther.

Furthermore Styles is an life-long activist and humanitarian and has marched, rallied, and protested for several social causes over the past few decades. He ran for Governor of California in 2003 as a write-in candidate during the Recall Election. He has volunteered for causes such as Move Against AIDS, City of Oakland Walk Against Poverty, Rally for Barbara Lee and Oakland Parks and Recs. When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, he raised  a trailers worth of donations and drove down to assist victims. He has worked in banking, finance, technology, and corporate training and now utilizes his skills as a credentialed teacher instructing and mentoring youth in Oakland and beyond for the past ten years.
